9 Impressive Things We Can Take Away From Shonda Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes is an all time famous American Television Producer, screenwriter and author. You might have seen her name pop up on several shows you watch yourself: Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, The Catch, and a few others.

She was named one of the 100 People Who Help Shape the World in TIME magazine and has won too many awards for me to not tell you just google her.

The way she portrays her characters and their lives has inspired me to inspire you!

She basis everything in some of her shows to situations and feelings that we can reason with and understand. Therefore, we DO reason and understand with her.

If you’re looking for empowerment or words of some kind of wisdom, or just some inspiring sayings, you’ve come to the right place.

1.) There is only one rule: There are NO rules.

Rhimes says that happiness comes from living as you need to, as you want to, and as your inner voice tells you to.

Happiness comes from living as you need to, as you want to, and as your inner voice tells you to.

Basically: stop setting so many rules to yourself! Live life to the fullest of your ability. However you want to live it! Don’t set rules that are only there to hold you back, because if that’s the case, are you truly living?

2.) Stop dreaming.

If you spend so much time dreaming, you’ll never actually live it. So stop dreaming about what you want, take action and go after it! What are you waiting for? Your dreams won’t come true if you just dream them.

3.) He is not the sun, you are.

Who do you love? Good, love them with all that you can, with all that you have. But remember that YOU are the center of your own universe! Not them. YOU are the sun and everything revolves around you, NOT YOU AROUND THEM!

Love yourself, take care of yourself, be there for yourself. And then they can be next.

Be a little selfish, be a kindly self-absorbed, be more into yourself. Without making yourself the sun, you will never shine the light for the person you love.

4.) If someone wants to compliment you, let them!

What about a thank you? What about a that’s so sweet?

Stop putting yourself down when someone tells you something good. Don’t reject the compliment.

People don’t just say things to say them. If someone is taking the time to notice your effort, your beauty, your charisma, or whatever it may be, THANK THEM!

Not thanking them is like a slap in the face. Not just from you to them, basically calling them a liar, but from you to yourself, another step in ruining your own self-esteem.

So take the compliment, and run with it. Build yoooo-self up!

5.) Cynicism is a choice. Optimism is a better choice.

Everything we say or do is a choice. We can choose to be negative about what happens, or we can choose to be positive. It’s that simple.

Okay, I’m not saying walk around with a smile plastered on your face being all jolly-merry-holy-molly. I’m saying you: things will happen to you, it’s inevitable, you have a CHOICE in how you decide to react to it.

6.) The only limit to your own success is your imagination.

We put ourselves down, we stop ourselves because we’re scared of what might happen.

No, but seriously, we IMAGINE up different scenarios of how things can go wrong and we decide not to try, we decide not to push a little bit harder.

Why? All because our friggen brains got in the way.

All I’m saying, or maybe Rhimes is saying, your success is only stopped by yourself and the power of your brain.

7.) Saying yes is courage.

But it really is. We say no out of fear sometimes.

Take time to think about a few things that you’ve said no to lately out of fear?

Trying some new food, or wearing that dress you always wanted to wear? Maybe a date for the first time since your divorce two years ago? Or a job offer that is amazing and just so happens to be across the country?

Say YES! Don’t be afraid. Yes is COURAGE.

8.) I am not lucky, I am smart.

Rhimes is NOT lucky. She is straight up smart, amazing, and empowering when she does what she does!

But you gotta believe it about yourself too.

Don’t just think you won that award you got because you’re lucky. Hell no, you’re smart, and amazing and you busted ass for it. So stop calling yourself lucky.

9.) It’s never too early to start kicking ass!

DO I EVEN NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS????

Start yesterday. What the hell are you waiting for!!!! It’s NEVER to early.
