Motivation is such a cliche. I try and stay motivated for everything I do. I really do! But, it’s hard. And over the last couple of months with the unmotivation that came over me I learned something important.
I learned that I don’t need it. For anything in fact. I have goals I’ve set for myself, for my life, my blog, and everything that follows.
And motivation just KILLS it. Motivation only lasts for a couple of days, seconds even. When it’s gone, it’s pretty draining, depressing, and annoying.
Don’t you just wish you could stay motivated for every single thing every single day?
Like… why aren’t we motivated enough to get our asses in the gym every single day. Why aren’t we motivated enough to keep up with cleaning every single day? Why aren’t we motivated enough at work? At everything?
To hell with motivation. Ya’ll…
You need DETERMINATION.
DETERMINATION IS EVERYTHING. Be DETERMINED to get what you want. Be DETERMINED to wake up and push yourself even if you’re unmotivated and don’t want to. Be DETERMINED to over power the you that tells you, you can’t do crap.
Motivation is defined as the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.
DETERMINATION is defined as firmness of purpose, resoluteness.
Determination requires you to build strength, will power, purpose.
It requires a regimen, one that you’re not allowed to give up. And so instead of looking for a reason, or for something to motivate you, look for a resolution, a firm purpose of that person you want to be. And stay determined. The rest will come with time.
So many people fail because they give up before they even try. They give up before they even truly push.
But those few wonderful people that surpass everything: they didn’t give up. They failed, and they got back up and tried again. They were determined!
Thomas Edison’s most famous quote:
I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.
So if you fail, get your ass back up, and fail again, until you get it right. Determination will allow you to overcome that. No one ever became amazing by not trying. No one ever became amazing by giving up.
There is no substitute for hard work.
So forget motivation. And build your determination.
What is your purpose?
